Summer is here!
Summer is sure speeding along and The MoonCatcher Project has been busy.
It seems like we hit the ground running when we got back from Africa. It was a delight showing Uganda to Brynn and Malawi to Claire. They both loved seeing MCP in action and jumped right in to help at all the schools we visited to distribute kits and teach our classes. All our African friends loved working with them and pulled them in as part of our family there.
Since then we’ve celebrated my Birthday with our annual Birthday Bash bringing in thousands of disposable menstrual supplies for our period Pantries and introducing new people to this fabulous local initiative.
We’ve had a bunch of MoonBees too. Here’s the list:
Macedonia Baptist Church, Russell Sage College, Clifton Park-HalfMoon Library, First United Methodist Church/Sch’dy, BPW, St. Stephens Episcopal Church, First Methodist Church East GreenBush, UU Albany, and NYSTEC
We’ve had a Shake It So/ MCP dance fundraiser. Johnathan Slate from Shake it So put together a fabulous video of Malawi music, MoonCatcher footage and lots of facts and figures about our work. We came together at St Sophias in Albany for an evening of dance, food and African crafts. I can’t thank Jonathan and his wife Dee enough. They were amazing. Thanks to Claire too who did all the leg work to set this up.
Randi Broadwell Received an award from ReGeneron for her volunteer work with The MoonCatcher Project. I went to Tarrytown with her to watch her accept the award and to hear about the wonderful community service this company supports. I also got to tour the facility and truly it was a foreign country for me. What fun!
We participated in Mayfest at the Unitarian Society of Schenectady too. Claire tabled there on that cold and windy day but more people heard about MCP so it was well worth it.
Most importantly we are working hard on our succession plan. We’ve met with our fearless leader and incredibly knowledgable consultant Teri Bordenave to compile a very detailed chart outlining all the steps needed to make this transition work as smoothly as possible. We’ve been having countless meetings to bring everyone up to speed and are feeling really good about our progress.
July slows down a little. We don’t schedule MoonBees this month but try to catch up on desk work and tidy up some. We find it’s important to take a step back and enjoy the sunshine a bit too.
Happy Summer to all of you!
