More News from MCP

Remember the Dance Party Fundraiser we had last February in support of two schools in Malawi? Well that project is now underway, as Olipa heads to the Lingadzi and Chimbowe Schools this week. She will begin the process of rebuilding the bathrooms at Lingadzi and will distribute MoonCatcher Kits with our our curriculum at both schools.

During her last visit to Malawi, Ellie visited the Lingadzi School to see the damage to the girl’s bathroom there.

Phoebe is back home and hard at work fighting Period Poverty. in Uganda You may remember that, with the immense support and assistance from the Scotia Rotary Club, we were able to secure a multi-year grant to deliver MoonCatcher Kits and our curriculum to girls (and boys) in schools designated by the Namugango Rotary Club in Uganda (our grant partner). Recently local Rotary Club members joined Phoebe to distribute Kits and provide our curriculum to the girls and boys of the Bbira Church of Uganda Primary School in Bulyambide.

Bella and Jackie are also hard at work in Kenya. Recently they visited the St. Christopher Kolunga Primary School, outside of Kisumu, Kenya. There, 150 schoolgirls eagerly received MoonCatcher Kits - complete with calendars to help them to track their menstrual cycles. We are proud of the banners that we sent back to Africa with Phoebe to be shipped to Kenya. They are now being used to further help girls to fully understand menstruation, and to take charge of their futures.

Students at the St Christopher Kolunga Primary School proudly hold up the banners that were used to deliver our menstrual and reproductive health curriculum.

During her stay in the US this fall, Phoebe expressed her passion for including boys in the education sessions she provides whenever girls receive kits. “Those boys need to learn about menstruation as much as the girls.” she said. “They need to become allies and role models and to help the girls to succeed.” During a recent visit to the St. Dennis Primary School in Kigero, Phoebe engaged boys in the curriculum and taught some of them how to make our kit!

Meanwhile, here at home, we held a wonderful MoonBee with the Scotia Rotary Club (photos below). These dedicated individuals have supported our mission for many years, and contributed so much toward our goal of changing the world, one girl at a time. A bit THANK YOU to all of them!

Our elves are very busy getting ready to make up to 800 lasagna dinners next month. There is a ton of work that happens way before we go into the kitchen to prepare the meals. These days we are busy purchasing all of the nonperishables, recruiting volunteers, setting up web pages for ordering and routing deliveries, and getting the word out so that we can maximize our fundraising to support MCP and the Street Soldiers of Schenectady.

Have you placed your order yet? Learn more HERE.

Just a part of the supplies we need to make 800 lasagna dinners on December 10 and 11.
