Day 7: Heading to Kenya

I don’t have a lot to say about today. We got in the car with our driver James and headed to Kenya. Mostly I slept having not done much of that the night before. I woke up now and then to check out the sights and managed to see some baboons, goats and plenty of cows along the way.

We crossed the border smoothly and I almost immediately nodded off again. I arrived in Kisumu  with a sunburnt arm…a true truckers tan. It never occurred to me that I should have thought about that. I had checked the temperature at home and it was snowing. At this time of year it just doesn’t seem possible that I need sunscreen. Tomorrow I’ll be wiser.

We met up with Agnes and Sara at Java Kisumu and after catching up for a while drove over to Bella’s place. Bella is one of our Kenyan tailors who works out of a small space in her husband's church. We were serenaded by the children’s choir as we sat, talked and drank mango juice. Bella had remembered how much I loved it last year. The music was fabulous and puts our churches in the US to shame.

With hugs all around we departed and drove to Agnes’s family's house where we are staying while here. What a pretty house with a gentle curved entrance to the covered porch. We’ll have a meeting out there tomorrow with our other MoonCatcher friends. The power is out here but it doesn’t seem to matter. We took showers and chatted for a while then I excused myself and went to bed to write this and get even more sleep.

It’s so sweet to be back here.
