Day 12: And puppies too!

None of us slept well in Palissa. It’s not that the place wasn’t charming and the company was lovely but it was terribly hot and none of us could find sleep. I took two showers during the night, Phoebe took three. None of this helped so today we all felt sort of out of it and not at our best. Poor Phoebe had to drive us to Jinja and I felt awful that neither Charlotte or I could manage to stay awake to keep her company. When we got to Tabitha’s house she stayed in the car for a while and nodded off in preparation for our afternoon class.

But, before we left Palissa, Jane had breakfast with us and presented each of us with a pretty basket and a copy of her book hand signed for each of us. Phoebe announced that she’d just heard that her dog had 8 puppies in the night. We’ve been teasing her that now she is the grandmother of 28 new babies. It will be fun to see all these little ones tomorrow. We’ll take plenty of photos I promise!

Once little Tabitha got home from school we all left for St. Peter’s High School in Jinja.

We taught our menstrual hygiene and reproductive health class to 94 girls and distributed kits to all of them. They were interested in what we had to say, asked lots of good questions and in general were fun to be around. Little Tabitha was patient and quiet as could be. She’s only six.

We got back to The Nile Hotel, took showers and met for dinner at 7:00. Once dinner was over Charlotte and I went to the receptionists desk to give four MCP kits to the women who work there. We had remembered Maureen from last year and when she told us a couple of days ago that they wanted kits we decided to surprise each of them with one. We gave a very quick lesson on how to wear it and bade them goodnight. I can barely write so I’ll do the same here.
