Eleven years ago, WASH United initiated a global day dedicated to menstruation: The first Menstrual Hygiene Day (MH Day), on 28 May, 2014 told the world that we are declaring an end to the stigma associated with menstruation and an end to period poverty.
Since then, MH Day has taken place every year and, over the past 10 years, has grown into a global movement. In 2025, WASH United’s monitoring tools tracked 23,400 pieces of media coverage, and the number of partner organizations has exceeded 1,150.
MH Day unites us in calling for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld, where the stigma and taboos surrounding menstruation are history. It is a world where everyone can access the products, period education, menstrual health services and period-friendly infrastructure they need.
